Photos on Indico (1)
I was only one trip onboard the "Indico" but it was an unforgettable voyage around Africa. I joined the vessel in Livorno (Italy). Few hours after leaving we had a fire in the hold 4, and we needed to make an emergency call in Barcelona.
The fire started on the bottom of hold 4 due to the breaking of a drum with hydrogen peroxide, which heated up wooden boxes with tractor's spare parts until fire broke up.
We stayed one week in Barcelona, whilst the hold was completely discharged, the firemen extinguished the fire and the hold was loaded again.
After that our next call was at Las Palmas for bunkering, and from there directly to Capetown (South Africa). The trip on that slow vessel took us 21 days, but it was short with some partys onboard as the Cross of the Line,
where the wife of one of the Mates and the Engine's Cadet were given a name
and the ceremony finished with water for everybody, with the ship's pump running and water everywhere.
Or disguish party where there were tankers and babys,
romans, chinese girls and neptuns,
and also a very bad workshop
And we were always ready for a joke, as here when we were ready for a photo during an apéritif,
when suddenly water started falling down from nowhere
and everybody was soaked
what did not stop us to stand again for a new photo and continuing with the apéritif.
To liven up the days some song books were prepared
Some with regional themes and others adapted from popular songs
