On 09/September/1997 she was attacked by several boats of the anti-government forces of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam when she was at Pulmoddai (Sri Lanka), where until that moment she had loaded 27,235 MT of limenite for Rotterdam. The combat began between them and the government soldiers who were onboard to protect her, with several Navy boats coming immediately to repel the assailants, sinking at least four assailant boats and damaging three others. During the attack several rockets were fired at the ship, which was badly damaged and burned, being flooded by the water used to fight the fires, partially sinking. Six crew members, five stevedores, two guard soldiers on board and twenty five attackers died. The ship was declared a total loss, and she totally sank, rendering the loading area unusable. In 2019, the cargo had been unloaded many years before and was stored in the mining company's facilities, due to disputes over its ownership, and the vessel had been partially scrapped on site, leaving the aft area pending from hold No. 3 due to to financial and bureaucratic problems.
